Celebrating Mardi Gras at home, in New Orleans or at a party; no Mardi Gras celebration would be complete without the rich flavors of Louisiana and these recipes are no different. Choose from an easy slow cooker recipe for Red Beans and rice to a deliciously decadent Carnival Crab Meat Dip. Each of these recipes features some of the most well know foods of Louisiana from Crab and Shrimp, Beans and Rice and even the French make an appearance in a Mimosa recipe. Each one of them is straight from the some of my favorite Louisianans' kitchen.

Take a virtual trip to Lima, Peru without leaving Houston. Eater Houston's Chef of the Year 2011, Roberto Castre, is offering a six-course tasting menu which includes his ceviche mercado, a passionfruit tiradito, duck confit over cilantro rice, veal osso bucco on puree of purple potatoes, braised slow cooker lamb casserole dumplings accompanied by Peruvian style risotto, and a delectable chocolate hazelnut custard with white chocolate and pisco.

For example, have you ever considered colour coordinating your fruit bowl or cutting the vegetables up like you often see in Chinese restaurants in the shape of animals or flowers. It does look good, doesn't it? It really is not all that difficult either when you know how or slow cooked lamb casserole you have the right cutters.

While the good food and plenty of sports are great, at its core, JP Fitzgerald's is an Irish pub. The bar area features great Irish beers and whiskey, along with a lively and friendly crowd and bartenders with the requisite brogues.

A similar situation occurred recently at a local fraternal lodge building. We decided to have a soup supper and guests had their choice of bringing soup, salad or dessert. Each attendee was asked to bring the recipe for their selected item.

More live music will follow at 7 p.m. by Shaker Fiddle, and a holiday menu will be offered containing Gaelic sirloins, lamb stew, corned beef and cabbage, Irish ravioli, Reuben chowder, cider scallops, shepherd's pie, fish and chips, Celtic burgers and Dublin clams, accompanied by Brown's own brews.

The recipe comes from Anna Morse, who was a member of a locally-famous group of women who rode the train in and out of Boston during the Fifties and Sixties. They came to call themselves the Railroad Club and swapped recipes, many of which were saved and passed along.

A person who is on the program may find that the slow cooker becomes her best friend. Cooking with a slow cooker not only offers a person convenience but a lot of flavor as well. The slow cooking time makes lean meats much juicer and tastier as well as helps the spices and herbs in the dish to infuse into the lamb stew from leftover lamb.
